Rugby World Cup 2015 Countdown Begins With New Posts In Blakelaw Park
With two years until England hosts the Rugby World Cup 2015, preparations have already begun in Newcastle, one of the 15 host cities during the tournament.
The RFU's 'Posts In The Parks' scheme sees specially designed rugby posts installed within each of the host cities, and Newcastle's have now been erected at Blakelaw Park. To mark the launch, Newcastle Falcons kicking coach and former England fly-half Dave Walder lead Kenton School youngsters in a rugby masterclass. Mark Jackson, corporate project manager at Newcastle City Council, is keen to get more youngsters interested in the sport after bringing World Cup rugby to the region. Jackson said: "We thought very specifically as to where the posts were going to be located, and obviously Blakelaw isn't a hotbed of rugby in Newcastle, it's more football orientated. "So now for people to come into the park and see the posts and be able to practice kicking, hopefully it will encourage more people to find out what's going on and get involved." Newcastle will host three matches over the course of the tournament, with New Zealand, South Africa, Tonga, Samoa and Scotland all playing at St James' Park in 2015, and the kids of Kenton School are already looking forward to the tournament.Year 8 pupil Jacob Williams said: "I'm really really excited, and I can't wait to maybe get tickets and if not I'll watch it on TV."Classmate Tyrese Nfon added: "I can't wait, I wish it was today."
